So, first Christmas party done and dusted and interestingly there was a fair smattering of festive gear being worn.
Now I know I live in a place akin to Stepford, so the proliferation of bizarre preppy clothing is generally rife - am hoping that have not had my senses numbed into thinking that any of that scary Vineyard Vines stuff, or god forbid, Lily Pulitzer is anywhere near acceptable. My worry is that I may succumb to the 'seasonal theme' related casual wear that is in abundance right now.
I luckily missed getting sucked into this 'only in America' trait during Thanksgiving, where it seems wearing orange sweaters is a key part of the celebration. Now switching my thoughts to Christmas (and last nights party), I suddenly noticed there's a whole new satirical dressing scene headed my way - at least I'm hoping these people are doing this to make an ironic statement or two - they can't be wearing this stuff for real right?
Whilst am finding the Gorsuch ski sweater with the odd tastefully placed reindeer somehow acceptable - perhaps teamed with a cute Elizabeth & James shearling vest to bring it into the 21st century. I have to draw the line at the velvet full length evening jacket complete with brass buttons and contrast wrist trims. I mean not even Ralph Lauren could stoop that low surely...
However it seems that in Stepford this kind of Bavarian Octoberfest dress is acceptable.
Discussing this with a like minded chum today, we began formulating a plan to begin an underground movement of folk who could infiltrate the system from the inside by attending future local social gatherings dressed in full festive gear - a kind of subversive stealth attack by Christmas sweater. Sadly there is no amount of eggnog that would get me to accept this mission - unless maybe it was Christmas eve...
