Is #NYFW turning into a horse fair?

Besides the usual smattering of fillies performing on the runway at Mercedes-Benz NY fashion week - there are, I have noticed, a whole other range of breeds in attendance at the tents at Bryant Park.

There are the high society upper east side thoroughbreds, who are in or close to the front row, who lunch first and then manage a few shows before cocktail hour, ensuring they carry their Louboutins in their 'this season' totes and switch from city savvy flats to heels prior to scaling the steps to the tents. Note Janice Dickinson's' cougar like appearance this season, rocking in on sky high heels to the Monarchy show, dragging young men in her wake.

Contrast this with the common pit pony or press hack, shoulders slumped, carrying their working life in their bags, schlepping from show to show, the only thought of sartorial elegance here is that your shoes are comfy enough to get through the constant hours of standing in line - ah the joy of a seat assignment that saves the endless queue (which seems to be a freelancers fate).

Finally there is the carnival or panto horse - Bette Lynch-esque, appearing day after day in a costume or quirky fashion piece to catch the paparazzi eye. A different breed altogether but as the week rolls on you notice that the dress sense, whatever breed, whichever pack you choose is all a celebration of the great creative industry that is fashion.
