Notes from a Stylist at swim meet

Spooky though it may seem - there is life beyond blogging about the fabulous world of fashion. This weekend have headed way south to Annapolis with no.1 & no.2 kid for a swim meet - which sounded like fun to begin with until I realized that it involved 4 hours driving with a 6am start and a key arrival time of 12 noon for no.2 kid to make swim warm up.

1st problem - needed to wash hair the night before as couldn't possibly get up before 5am to wash & blow dry : this is where I wish I'd invested in Brazilian Blow Out treatment the previous week so could throw self in shower then exit looking like Giselle (sans bambino), hop into car & drive south.

2nd problem - what to wear in car/for arrival so as to appear part alpha female hockey mom/swim mom (clearly no Sarah Palin analogies here... or Mrs Tiger Woods either) & part casual fashionista. Might seem easy to most but the swim crowd are a curious mix of local lovelies and fashion forward city girls who know the difference between a Tory Burch or a Miu Miu loafer - it's all about the buckle detail don't you know.

3rd problem - am officiating as a USA swim official which has a uniform of white polo & navy pants/trousers : what's a stylist to do about that!!

Having figured my way through first 3 problems (with the help of Supergas) & finding kids beaming with success at first days events it was off to dins for debrief.

This intrepid reporter can only divulge so far that the one thing Annapolis does have apart from a bunch of swimming pools is cute Christmas lights...
