What to wear to Diana Ross's Christmas tree lighting party

Having scooped an invite (precariously though it was), to Diana Ross's Christmas celebration at her home, to mark her return to the neighborhood - ok, ok, it wasn't me it was my daughter in her school choir, but still, an issue on what to wear for a stint outside in this post blizzard snow clad quarter was looming.

One would have thought it would be a crowd puller for the whole family, but teen son and smallest boy had no interest in seeing this super celeb up close and personal. The eldest muttered 'whatever' along with 'who is she?' and with that just two of us scuttled off to chez Ross for the big event.

We battled through the valet parking line and on to the house which was beautifully lit with festive features. Ushered down to the sea front, a real live Santa appeared along with Ms Ross and her brood to turn on the Christmas lights on a huge tree and sing carols in the snow.

The school choir were given scarves from Lands' End to keep them warm, but am pleased to report that the key to my insulation was my cashmere loop from Saks and my shearling gloves from J. Crew.

I spotted her daughter Tracee Ellis Ross wearing the most amazing monster Ugg boots that reminded me of those yeti boots back in the day - made my Tecnica numbers look positively slimline. She assured me that although not that practical, fashion was first when it came to her tree lighting party attire.

The rest of the crowd seemed to be decked out in full length fur coats - which am guessing were not faux. Another long line for the valet pick up and with our pockets packed with festive goodies from the Ross Naess family - a little heart warming Christmas spirit began to sizzle.

  2. Wonderful that Diana has returned to the east coast! I always think of her as being a transplanted New Yorker because of her condo at the Sherry Netherlands. Though Los Angeles has its physical beauty, New York and the east coast is much more suited for organic entertainment royalty like the Ross-Naess clan. Of course, should Diana ever feel that the Greenwich estate is too isolating, I would want her to move closer to her loved ones and support system. She does have a wonderful new grandchild that would keep her on the east coast. As for a young kid not caring about seeing a Legend, why would that be unusual. You grow, mature and learn in life....a young child has their own age-appropriate idols to look at.
