Way down in the West Village (183 West 10th Street to be exact), there's a teeny tiny shop chock a block with delightful jewelry from designer Laura Lobdell. It's the smallest retail store joining the big hitters of the evening that is Fashions Night Out, but definitely worth a stop. Laura is teaming up with her neighbor restaurant Bobo and is running a 'Surf Ave meets Seventh Ave' event to prolong that indian summer feel with Coney Island Jazz Age - think block party meets cool jewels meets contemporary Coney Island cuisine.
Laura's designs are based on 'found objects' with eclectic pieces that are both beautiful and ethical - shells from a beach in Montauk cast in silver and threaded onto a chain, a golden mold of a chili washed up from the banks of the Ganges incorporated into a lariat.
Her pieces are individual but there is something for everyone - you could cover most of your gift giving for the year in one visit.
For this night only she has created a numbered and signed limited edition of her 'seeds of silk' bracelets for the event. If you are in the neighborhood this is a good place to make a stop and discover the current trend for cool ethical trading
