The lament of lady paparazzo at New York Fashion Week

It's curious how a fashion week day can throw you into all sorts of conversations with all manner of folk. On this particular day my blogging partner and I were taking a quiet moment in the LPQ cafe at Bryant Park when a couple of female paparazzo decided that this would be their perfect lunch spot too.

After carefully attempting to snarf goats cheese salad and rocket without looking like a demented fool whilst craning my ear to try to hear what/who they had in their pap sites, we eventually struck up a conversation. It seems that the life of the lady pap is not all sweetness and light.

There were laments about the male fraternity's physical prowess at snagging a key shot - elbows and right hooks seemed to be the offensive move of choice when getting that much sought after celeb pic. The ladies were full of tales of the complexities of getting your shots in - there's a risk you take on whether to file any good early shots you have and be the first to snag the plaudits vs staying out all day and roving the area for more shots. The other issue they bemoaned was the plethora of bloggers armed with cameras at the shows, making their hard fought for media riser shots a little less sought after.

So the stories of press vs blogging unease appear to rumble on, but it does make you think how times they are a changing, when even the paparazo complain about their turf being invaded by the melee of bloggers wielding digital cameras.
