So you've been told these are the trends of the season by Vogue or Elle or some such glossy. The mid level mags have picked up on it and start telling you where to buy this look at a cheaper price point, page 6 of the NY post reports you really need this look to survive the winter - so this season what should be considered a trend or tosh?
Fur vests : correct me if I'm wrong but dressing up in furry stuff - real or faux just gives you extra girth right? However many super skinny Rachel Zoe pictures you see that profess this is a trend - please, take a deep breath and step away. At Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week a couple of ladies were in front of me both sporting the same fur - needless to say they looked like a pair of coyotes from behind....
Over the knee boots : It's fall, there are more boot choices out there than you know how to filter - a savvy chick will probably be opting for this years cool biker boot to pair with leggings and a tunic - the over the knee boot - take a moment to ponder...

If you are like 96% of the rest of society and actually have a few curves, and woe betide, may be slightly vertically challenged - there are a couple of things to consider.
Can you remember 'muffin tops'? that curious phenomenon that occurred due to the low rise jean, where the excess pounds you were concealing due to the low rise, actually had to appear somewhere & ended up bursting out over the waistband of this pant - say hello to 'muffin thighs'!
If you try and squeeze your pegs into these infinitely unflattering boots to make the lower half of the leg look skinny, the excess flesh moves upwards and outwards resulting in this ugly look. The answer - pick another calf friendly look, a boot is a boot, buy one with a couple of buckles that nods to the trend and don't be a slave to fashion.
The peg leg trouser : hot on the runway at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week 2010 -, it's a gathered waist and crop trouser look - fabulous if you are runway ready like at Philip Lim, if you have any derriere whatsoever, this is not a look for you. Wait for J.Crew or Gap to come up with a mass market meaningful alternative at a healthy price point that you can buy into this season & check back here next season to see if you need to consign it or keep it.
