Why my navy Hunter wellies must go...

It rained in Stepford today, truth be told its been raining for the past month which is playing havoc with my sartorial skills.

In the UK its simple to be an accomplished exponent at the April showers game, as grey clouds plus downpours can only equal damp and cold conditions. Here Stateside, the same conditions are a whole different ball game. The unseasonal monsoon brings lashing rain and humidity that sends the hair frizz afflicted amongst us dashing to the nearest Sephora in a maniacal search for John Friedas best frizz ease products.

Besides the frizz factor the other issue I have with this climate is that all those cute trenches I have been purchasing over the years that work very well thank you in my old hood, are completely inappropriate here. The ladies of Stepford have no use for this seasons bright macs with a cinched waist and cute double breast detailing -  its 85f out there, its only the Brits who are caught sweating in their Burberrys.

On a curious note it seems THE thing to wear in the rain however, (whether its typhoon level precipitation or simply a few drops from a stray sprinkler in an immaculately primped garden), is a bright pair of wellies. But here is the twist that has me in a quandary - its not the classic dull navy Hunter that has seen me through endless dog walks in the hills of Surrey that's required here - its a far more striking fashion note.  It seems the only acceptable form of rubber footwear is bizarre brights in all manner of prints - from florals to geometrics to patent to mock croc - the only style to have is bold and worn with your jeans rolled up to your calf.

My sensible side tells me that my understated Hunters will do, but luckily have noticed in the press that Hunter are currently collaborating with Jimmy Choo to make a cute fashion forward version of the ubiquitous welly for a mere $395 and if I'm quick i can get my name down on the waiting list before the first rains of the Fall.........
