Notes from a Stylist does July 4th in Style
What could be finer - blistering hot temperatures, a private beach, a boat ride for the boys and oodles of good old American hotdogs - from Boston you know.
Turns out that July 4th isn't all that bad after all - there was I thinking it was all the morning after the night before my birthday, but no, apparently our American hosts have other ideas about throwing a shindig on such an auspicious occasion.
So, handicapped by the smallest of hangovers from my birthday eve, we set off for our hosts private beach and not 1 but possibly 12 firework shows. All thanks of course to the crazy East coast landline which means New York actually hugs Long Island quite closesly until you're headed for Bridgeport (or somewhere way out in the 'burbs).
So given the 90f+ heat, the beach seemed the best place to be, that coupled with the fact that our hostess is one of New Yorks premier Interior Designers, meant that no holds were barred and the event set up possibly took longer than the event itself.
No, I wasn't wounded that my beach blankets were turned down on the basis that they were turqoiuse and not the required red, white and blue. I just sat back, relaxed and appreciated all the hard work that had gone into setting this most enjoyable scene.
Next year - this is the place to see July 4th fireworks in!
