New York Fashion Week shocked at death of Alexander McQueen

The shock news that Alexander McQueen has died in London today, of an apparent suicide, has certainly resonated on this side of the pond as this very afternoon one of his collections was to be shown at the Milk Studios in New York.

The invitation simply said "McQ Alexander McQueen Presentation AW 10 Collection" and was to be live streamed. The PR firm KCD who handle the events at Milk Studios have confirmed that the presentation has been cancelled.

As one of only a handful of shows adopting live streaming this season in New York, McQueens show was to be beamed to the masses via www.showstudio.com.  Rodarte and Alexander Wang are amongst other designers using this technique. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week seem to be a few steps behind the London Fashion Week team who announced recently that they will be live streaming all their runway shows as the fash pack debunk from New York and move on to London next week.

The Show Studio web site has simply posted a black banner with the headline "Lee", McQueens first name, on their web page today.

McQueen was widely thought of as an innovative talent amongst his peers in the fashion world, he always challenged convention and pushed the envelope when it came to technical creations both in his designs and his shows. RIP.
