Fashion bloggers of the world unite
I took a trip to the Independent Fashion Bloggers conference on Monday between shows, to see what all the hullaballoo was about with this 'press vs bloggers' lark. It seems to have sparked up since the diminutive Tavi sat in the front row of a Paris Couture show wearing a huge Philip Treacy hat right smack in front of the Grazia folk - who tweeted their umbridge to the world.
The media has since decided this is an epic struggle in the making - a David and Goliath kind of a story with the lowly bloggers slowly managing to win the battle to gain sensible access to runway shows that they will no doubt write about anyway whether they attend or not. The Editors are wondering whether their last bastion of hard fought for hierarchical power is crumbling due to the social media revolution. All that free information online which only last year people would have paid good money for to read about monthly in a glossy mag.
By chance Tavi's mum sat next to me at the seminar and was clearly a proud parent. Her daughter was articulate and savvy with a canny attitude beyond her 13 years - their looks were both distinctive yet smacked of librarian chic - it would be interesting to see how Mrs Gevinson turned out on one of those makeover programs that this country loves.
The aspiring bloggers were all reverently silent as they sat to listen to the celebblog panel - the likes of Bryanboy, Suzie Bubble, Phil Oh, the Fashionista girls and Tavi herself.
"I thought the Grazia comment was a joke" chirped Tavi who confesses to her blogs taking anything from "2 minutes to 2 hours, but time online is a totally different thing".
On the question of whether she reads her own press; "I have to be with myself all the time - I don't want to read about myself too".
On the celebrity status she seems to have attracted; "It's part of the internet, it's all part of the game"
At the post conference party we saw the true reflection of this enormous creative collection of folk that inhabit the style blogging world, each expressing their individuality in all manner of garb - but my personal favorite celeb blog spot was of the lovely Scott Schuman - The Sartorialist.
