The City Sneaker : New research shows old faithfulls are keepers

Whilst attempting to pack for a family jaunt to Washington DC this weekend - yes you've guessed it, another great American 'holiday' is upon us and this time we have actually planned to use that extra day and half to indulge in a little American history by hitting the political powerhouse of the country.

As usual, had been busying myself racing round the house multi tasking like a whirling dervish to ensure small people are catered for - enough tee shirts to allow for possible spillage each day, enough long sleeve woollies in case the long predicted climate change occurs this very weekend and we end up enduring the next ice age, enough pac-a-macs to cover us for the prospective showery forecast, dammit its changed again to say 79f & sunny, delete pac-a-macs, add shorts.

Enough changes of clothes for him indoors to make it look like I did indeed only pack that 1 pair of jeans he requested and seems to need to get through his off duty life - subtly fooling him by slipping in a pair of cords & a couple of smarter casual shirts for evening festivities

I eventually turn my attention to my packing list - stupidly take another peek at the weather forecast and adding 2+2 together - it may rain but its warm, we are going to be schlepping round monuments and museums - what the hell am I going to wear on my feet?

Calming the small panicky tickle that is wriggling around in my insides & eyeing up those cute Chloe putty colored flats that recently fell into my possession whilst at #NYFW - I realise that they still hurt my feet & have not had the sufficient 'breaking in' period that my chubby little trotters require in order to spend a whole day in, let alone a yomp round a city - its time to hit the Net and use those trusted 'next day delivery' web sites that I have come to know and love.

First stop endless.com - the doyenne of delivery - order today have it tomorrow - perfect for that last minute panic buy.

I have a yen for some city sneakers that will tick the cool yet comfy box in my addled fashionista brain - Puma? I adored the Mostro's (which they only seem to make for men these days), but the speed cat (even in metallic) is not quite doing it for me - click - I'll take a peek at them in the flesh just in case. Skechers? too many 5 year olds in them for my liking no matter how much they've been repackaged to appeal to adults.  Fly London ?  have I been in NY too long and lost all context of Carnaby Street and Camden? even I can't tell if these are uber cool or intrinsically naff - click -  best to order them just to check. All Stars - octogenarian mother in law has just been sporting them on her recent visit - now if that isn't telling me a trend is over a smack in the face with some hi-tops might - definitely not on my list.

But hold - my trusty white Superga's - not just this summers must have but an every summer must have - are now selling in funky colours - didn't I see Kristen Stewart flying around film sets in a red pair the other day - I switch to Superga-usa and low and behold - the holy grail of urban autumn sneakers is in front of me - ooh - the chocolate or the olive? the navy or the black? in the end I opt for olive to go with my immaculately planned 'vaguely brown' packing scheme.

The site has next day delivery and a mere 24 hours later I am hunkered over a bunch of cardboard boxes perusing the hard labor of only yesterday (note to self, flat pack boxes and discard randomly in garage before hubs gets home to see the evidence of new arrivals).

Seems I was right about the Puma and Fly London, but wait - the Superga's - double score! not only a cute hue (the olive being a 'could be brown/could be green' kinda tint), this pair have woolly innards!  No need for this seasons Ugg ugliness to rear its head in my closet - I have comfy & warm pegged and no 'breaking in' blisters to boot. All that is required now is to figure out my rain coat....
