The Boyfriend Jean - Hit or Miss?

I recently became a convert to the boyfriend slimfit vintage jean - quite frankly I think it's all due to too much good living and failure to get to the gym over the summer that has finally led to the demise of my waistline and me accepting this trend.

Whatever the cause, having dismissed this as a fad this time last year - yes even the best of us have flaws... it's got another season or so to go judging by the NY Fashion week shows.

I thought I had investigated it thoroughly - I had been given the heads up this time last year, when my designer chum waltzed into my kitchen sporting suitably distressed & rolled up old jeans paired with chunky heels and a silk crop jacket - my spidey style senses began tingling. If this fashion week superhero was working this look then surely it had to be a keeper.

Sadly the rest of the fashion production world had not cottoned on to her vibe - in an effort to emulate her effortless vintage chic I plowed my way through a plethora of brands

Current/Elliott : too baggy
Lucky brand : too skinny
Levi's original : too boy fit (am saving them for my teen son to grow into)
Joes Jeans : too stretchy

It's not like I didn't try! I had the cute Mary Jane chunky heel shoes all set, the slim fit shirt/jacket combo on top sorted - all I needed were the Jeans.

The Spring/Summer season came and went and not until the Fall 09 merchandise hit the stores this August did I finally reach Nirvana, in the strangest of places.... J Crew of all stores - yes, that of the city fit crop pant & embellished cardigan, recently championed by Mrs O. Weirdly this stalwart of the East Coast wardrobe has the perfect pair for me. A little distressed detail here, a little folding of the hemline there & voila! I am dressing like my designer buddy did this time last year.. nothing like hitting the tail end of a trend.... or am I missing something....
